**On March 25, 2025** – Governor Ron DeSantis has announced over $389 million in grants to enhance water quality and water supply across Florida. These funds will support vital restoration projects in key ecosystems and improve local water infrastructure.

### **How the Funding is Distributed**

- **$189 million** for Water Quality Improvement Grants to reduce pollution in waterways.
- **$55 million** for Alternative Water Supply Grants to increase Florida’s water resources.
- **$100 million** for the new Indian River Lagoon Protection Program to address pollution and habitat restoration.
- **$25 million** for the Caloosahatchee Watershed Grant Program to protect this vital river and estuary.
- **$20 million** for Biscayne Bay Water Quality Improvement projects to improve this critical marine ecosystem.

Governor DeSantis emphasized the importance of protecting Florida’s waterways, which are essential to the state’s environment, economy, and overall quality of life. "These investments will accelerate restoration efforts and ensure cleaner water for communities statewide," he said.

### **What This Means for Floridians**

This funding will directly support communities by improving wastewater and stormwater systems, replacing outdated septic tanks with sewer connections, and reducing pollution in Florida’s most vulnerable waterways. Statewide, these efforts are expected to remove over **1.1 million pounds of nitrogen** and **286,000 pounds of phosphorus** annually—two major pollutants that harm Florida’s water quality.

In total, 31 high-priority projects were selected out of 348 submissions, ensuring the most impactful and cost-effective solutions receive funding. Since taking office, Governor DeSantis has directed nearly **$2.9 billion** toward 1,098 water projects, with over 250 already completed.

### **Investing in Florida’s Water Future**

Beyond water quality, the state is also focused on securing long-term water resources. The **$55 million Alternative Water Supply Grant Program** will fund 14 projects aimed at producing **40 million gallons of water per day** within two years. These projects focus on reclaimed water use, aquifer recharge, and conservation to ensure Florida has a sustainable water supply.

Looking ahead, Governor DeSantis has proposed **$550 million** in next year’s budget to continue protecting water quality and **$60 million** for additional alternative water supply projects.
